Early Life and Career
Gianni Infantino was born on 23 March 1970 in Brig, Switzerland, to Italian parents. He holds dual Swiss‑Italian citizenship and grew up in the bilingual canton of Valais. After completing a law degree at the University of Fribourg, he earned a master’s in international sports law from the University of Neuchâtel. His early professional experience included work as a lawyer and as a secretary for the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES).
In 2000 Infantino joined the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) as a legal analyst. Over the next decade he rose through the ranks, becoming UEFA’s Deputy General Secretary in 2007 and General Secretary in 2009. In that role he helped shape UEFA’s club competitions, oversaw the introduction of financial fair play regulations, and managed relations with national associations and stakeholders.
Path to the FIFA Presidency
